You will need a referral which is less than 12 months old to see Dr Ragu, you can get this from your local GP or Dentist

Do I need to pay for my consultation at the time of my appointment? +

There is a consultation fee. If you have a valid referral and medicare card, approximately 50% will be rebateable from medicare. At the appointment you will be issued with an invoice which needs to be paid at the time of the appointment and the medicare rebate will be automatically processed and deposited in your account.

Will my health insurance cover my surgery/procedure? +

There are three separate fees, surgeons fees, anaesthetic fees, and hospital fees. Varying amounts of these will be covered by medicare and your health insurer depending on the level of cover. Dr Ragu will provide you with an itemised quote at the time of consultation, which you can use to confirm with your health insurer about the extent of your cover.

Dental extractions are not covered by medicare, however generally item numbers 323 for the upper wisdom teeth and 324 for the lower wisdom teeth are used for the lower jaws.

Anaesthetic fees If your surgery is done under a general anaesthetic (while you are asleep) you will be under the care of a Specialist Anaesthetist. While we are unable to provide you with an exact quote for the anaesthetic fee, our anaesthetic team will be in contact with you to provide you with a break-down. This is generally based on the type of surgery and also your level of health cover.

If however, your surgery is performed under local anaesthetic (while you are awake) there will be a facility fee and the local anaesthetic fee. A portion of this will be covered by your health insurance depending on the level of cover.

Hospital fees Insured patients are generally charged according to their tier of coverage they have with their health fund. You can get an estimate from the hospital once you have your quote from Dr Ragu along with the item codes.

Pathology If we have taken a tissue sample from a lesion. This will need to be sent to pathology for an assessment and diagnosis. The pathology centre may invoice directly.

Does Dr Ragu see patients that do not have private health insurance? +

Dr Ragu will see uninsured patients, but if a procedure needs to be carried out in hospital, there will be an out of pocket expense for the hospital and an anaesthetic specialist. They will invoice you separately.

Am I required to pay upfront for surgery? +

Payment of our surgical fees are required prior to the surgery. Dr Ragu’s practice manager will contact you via phone to organise and coordinate these payments. The payment options will also be noted on the quote sheet you receive at the time of the consultations. Should you have any queries regarding the fees, please contact our reception staff on (02) 5110 3032.

Upon receipt of your payment for surgery you will receive a treatment credit receipt. After surgery you will be issued a receipt stating the service provided and the item numbers and their description. You will then take this receipt to your health fund and medicare to make your claims

Do I need Xrays or MRI scans prior to my appointment? +
